Welcome to YMSL Carrollton

To assist, serve, and support those who are in need in our community.

Young Men's Service League is a non-profit organization that initiates and encourages young men and their mothers to pursue philanthropic involvement in their community and provides an opportunity to enhance mother/son relationships.

Young Men’s Service League, Inc has a National Board of Directors which governs and promotes the expansion of YMSL Chapters throughout the United States to allow young men and their mothers to assist, serve, and support those who are in need in their communities. YMSL members have served over 100,000 community service hours since the organization was formed in 2001.

YMSL History

YMSL was founded by Pam and Julie Rosener who envisioned an organization that would allow mothers and their high school aged sons to work together in support of those in need within the community. They recruited other interested mothers who shared their vision and turned that dream into the reality that is now YMSL.

The initial YMSL chapter is in Plano, Texas , where Pam and Julie worked with other empowered mothers and sons to create a highly successful philanthropic and developmental organization for young men and their mothers.

YMSL Carrolton History

In March 2007, Donna Newkirk became aware of YMSL through a friend who had a son in YMSL and a daughter in NCL.  During the summer of 2007, Donna talked to several POPCS Moms about the possibility of starting a YMSL chapter at our school and the interest and enthusiasm was unanimous.  Ginger Kennedy took the lead and contacted Pam and Julie Rosener at National YMSL in October, 2007 to find out what was involved.   The goal was to organize and complete the charter process prior to May, 2008 so that we could start a chapter for POPCS in the summer of 2008 prior to our boy’s freshman year in high school.  We felt that YMSL was an excellent way to spend time with our sons, provide them a way to practice leadership, and teach them the importance of community service.  Donna and Ginger met with Chris Hahn, POPCS Headmaster, and he supported the idea 100% and felt that it was an excellent addition to the extra-curricular activities.

In October 2007, YMSL National provided all the documents and forms and said that a meeting could take place once we had commitment for a Board of Directors and had identified 5 philanthropies for our new chapter.  We also discovered that 10th grade Moms could join since we would be forming a new chapter.  On February 20, 2008, Donna Newkirk, Ginger Kennedy and Stacey Sembrick met with Pam and Julie Rosener and Lynne Grinstead.  In the coming months we had discussions with National and they asked us to consider aligning with Greenhill School as they were also interested in starting a chapter.  National facilitated discussions with Greenhill and Mary Dorflinger and Kay Brienzi volunteered to serve on the Board and manage the membership drive for Greenhill.  By March, 2008 the initial Board of Directors was set and we had explored philanthropies that we thought our chapter could serve.  We had chosen the name Carrollton Chapter with the guidance from National that they wanted our chapter to expand west and serve the community west of Midway.  We were on our way.

The Board of Directors included:

  • Donna Newkirk - President
  • Charisse Shadley - Vice President
  • Teri Daly - Secretary
  • Moureen Grundmann – Treasurer

  • Karla Eden - VP Philanthropy Elect

  • Brenda Harrington - VP Communications
  • Dana Christen - VP Membership
  • Kay Brienzi - VP Parliamentarian

Brenda Harrington got busy designing a website and Moureen Grundmann put together the new member packets and started establishing Carrollton Chapter as a non-profit.  Stacey Sembrick took the lead and organized the first membership drive meeting.  On Thursday, March 13, at 7:00 pm in the POPCS high school commons, the first membership drive meeting for the Carrollton YMSL Chapter took place.  The Carrollton Chapter welcomed members from POPCS, Greenhill, CCA, Shelton, and other schools

On Friday, April 25, 2008, YMSL Carrollton Chapter Board members attended the YMSL National Training Day and was introduced as the newest YMSL chapter.  Dana Christen did an excellent job of managing the membership drive and 41 members were on board.  Donna and Charisse assigned members committee positions.  Moureen was busy setting up financial accounts.  Ginger and Mary were beginning to plan boys meetings and activities.  Brenda was setting up a calendar on the website.  Stacey and Karla were busy contacting philanthropies and identifying ones that our chapter would work with.
