Membership Requirements

Purpose, Membership and Responsibilities

Purpose

The group has been organized to initiate and encourage young men in the pursuit of philanthropic involvement in their community and to provide an opportunity to enhance mother/son relationships.

Membership

The mom is the member. New members require an existing member sponsor. Each member shall be obligated to meet the responsibilities of the organization. Each year a freshmen class will be added with a class size of approximately 25 members. Siblings of current or past members in good standing will be granted legacy status and automatic admission to their grade level. Non refundable annual dues are set by the board and are collected by May 1st.

Boys Responsibilities

  1. All boys must adhere to a Code of Conduct while participating at meetings, social and philanthropy functions.
  2. Attend 5 of 7 monthly meetings (September, October, November, January, February,      March and April).  The meetings will take place on one Sunday of each month.  Meetings will last approximately 1½ hours.  The meetings will provide opportunities for the boys to learn about a variety of topics to include social, practical and educational topics.  Moms do not have to attend these meetings unless they are on the Boys’ Meeting Committee.  In order to receive credit for a meeting you must  arrive no more than 15 minutes late, without prior approval.  Meeting credits earned in this manner should be recorded on the YSML Hours Record sheet.
  3. Each boy is to complete a minimum of 20 philanthropy service hours, of which five may be wish list hours, per calendar year.  The Young Men’s Service League Board must approve the philanthropy.  Philanthropy hours are served with the mom.
  4. Attend the father/son activity.
  5. Each grade level will have a slate of officers for the year.  The positions rotate each year to encourage each boy to hold the office of President, Vice President, Secretary, etc.  These duties are explained by the Grade Level Coordinator. Attend the annual awards banquet with your mom.
